How To Use A Portable Generator In An Emergency

Most people have experienced a power outage of some kind. There could be a lot of new houses that are taxing the power grid. Or there could be a tree that falls on the power lines in a storm. In this episode, we’re talking about how a portable generator can keep your lights on in a power outage.

When the power goes out, it can cause a lot of problems. Power surges from the power coming back on can ruin circuit boards in computers. Food can go bad while the fridge or freezer is off. Or you can be miserable in the heat when your air conditioner goes out.

Having a plan if the power goes out is always a good idea. One part of that plan could be finding out what electronics you want to keep on in the case of a power outage. If you decide there are appliances or medical equipment that you need to run all the time, a generator can help.

We go over some options and considerations in the video. Regardless of what option you choose, there are some important things to remember. First, never run it in an enclosed area. That includes a garage with the doors open. Carbon monoxide can build up fast, and a single breath when you turn the machine off can be lethal. Second, make sure the generator you choose can handle the starting power your appliances need along with the running power.
