6 Things to Know About Your Furnace Filter

You may have heard more about your AC filter, but not as much about your furnace filter. With a few exceptions, your AC and furnace filters are one and the same. In this blog, we refer to the filter as an furnace filter.

A person inserts a clean furnace filter into a compartment of an HVAC system—an essential step in furnace maintenance.
Three rectangular HVAC filters in white cardboard packaging, labeled with dimensions 16 x 25 x 1 and 14 x 24 x 1, stacked on top of each other—ideal for regular furnace maintenance.
A stack of various 16x25x1 inch furnace filters in different brands and packaging, placed on a blue surface—perfect for routine furnace maintenance.
Chart showing three furnace filter levels: Good (filters dust mites, dust, pollen), Better (adds mold, pets), and Best (adds smoke, sneezing); with increasing MERV/MPR ratings—great for HVAC tips and better furnace maintenance.
Two air filters side by side; the left furnace filter is clean and white, while the right filter is dirty and darkened with dust—a clear reminder of the importance of regular furnace maintenance.

Depending on how your filter is placed in your HVAC unit, slide or place the new filter in with the arrow pointing toward the furnace, and you are done. Just remember to check it once a month to see if it needs to be replaced.
