What Does Cabling Your Main Line Actually Do?

A technician wearing a white uniform operates a drain cleaning machine near a floor drain in a utility room, expertly cabling main line plumbing to remove stubborn clogs.

Have you ever had a drain back up and needed to send a cable down to clear it up? Do you know what that was actually doing? In this video, we’re going over the pros and cons of cabling a line. We’ll discuss what cabling does, what it doesn’t do, and when cabling isn’t the right call.Where a cable does well is getting the water to go down a drain again. If your floor drain is backing up or a toy falls down a toilet, the cable can get the water moving again. What a cable does not do is fix the problem. When a cable goes down a line, all it does is poke a hole through any roots or other blockages. That can allow a camera to fit down the line to find out what’s causing the backups you’re seeing. But when you cut roots like that, they have faster access to any water getting out. They grow back faster and stronger with every cable.

If you’ve needed to cable a line, you might be dealing with a bigger problem. Any roots or leaking pipes will get worse over time, so it’s a good idea to get the problem fixed earlier. In that situation, Any Hour Services would be happy to help. We can have one of our drain supervisors send a camera down your line to see what’s going on. Then they can work with you to find the best solution for you and your family.
