Should You Replace Your Furnace And AC At The Same Time?

If your furnace breaks should you replace your air conditioner? And if your AC goes out do you need to replace your furnace too? This episode covers the different replacement options there are for HVAC equipment. We go over the pros and cons and when you might choose each option.

The average lifespan of a furnace is around 15-20. An AC usually goes out a bit quicker, at an average of 12-13 years. Replacing either is a big investment whether you replace both at once or one at a time. But you can choose to replace one at a time if you prefer. So why might you do both at once?

If you replace both your furnace and air conditioner at the same time, you’re going to be paying more upfront. But many brands are more efficient when they match. That matters because the expensive part of an HVAC system is using it. It could cost you more to use an old furnace with a new AC.

Even though all those things are true, the ultimate decision is yours. Are both of your units struggling? Or is only one of them? And of course, what’s your budget right now? The best way to go is to have someone that you trust to give you options. Most of the time the technician in your home should be working with you to find the best fit for your situation.
