08-2021 quote

As you know, Jeremy and I have been meeting with all of you in department groups to help answer your questions about the Any Hour Group, our PE partnership, and how we now have the funds to buy other businesses. We also further discussed, in detail, the vision and the future that awaits all of us in the next 12 to 15 years as we keep building this business. It has been fun to hear your questions and to discuss our direction as a team. You have had great questions.

It feels like we all understand that there is a roll up, or consolidation, happening in the construction trades. Just 3 years ago, this started out East and now it is coming to the Utah market. Thank you for supporting the vision to get in front of this, rather than be a victim of this, like a lot of the ma and pop grocery and hardware stores back in the 80s and 90s that were blindsided by Walmart, Amazon, Home Depot, and other consolidators.

I have to say that Jeremy and I feel blessed to be with such positive and supportive people. We have felt that you want to know what the future looks like. You want to know that there will be more opportunities, small and large, and that the culture will continue to be protected--and even be improved upon--as we bring in other companies to join us from around the nation.

“Generally speaking, the most miserable people  I know are those who are obsessed with themselves; the happiest people I know are those who lose themselves in the service of others….By and large, I have come to see that if we complain about life, it is because we are thinking only of ourselves.” - Gordon B. Hinckley.

I love to have an upward projection: a positive and inclusive path for success. I don’t think that I’m alone in wanting a growth path and wanting to have others on that same growth path with me.

Years ago, I would go to work and work long, physically demanding hours, usually until late into the evening. Most days, I was the first to start the day and the last one working at the end of it. I would not share my dream or my direction with those around me out of fear of being laughed at or even ridiculed.  Most of them were just there for the paycheck and not for a career or to build something like what we have today.

Years ago, it was unpopular for a construction worker to have a dream or aspirations for more. The work and the economy would end up crushing most small and even large construction companies, given enough time.

But I’ve always had dreams and aspirations to improve and to be better tomorrow than I am today. I’ve wanted to provide a better tomorrow than I’m able to today for those around me. I think that everyone has some kind of dream or aspiration for themselves and for their families. Most of us want to keep growing and have a good retirement someday or to be able to provide more than just the necessities of life.

I’ve learned to include others in these dreams of mine and in these goals. As many can attest, life is good at crushing our dreams but I have found that many hands make work lighter and that by small and simple things, great things come to pass. Small things become great things if stacked one on top of the other. Life can’t crush a group of hard-working individuals as easily as it can crush people that stand alone.

There is so much negativity in the world and I’ve always chosen not to participate in it. I hope that all of us choose to continue to build each other and not to dwell on the ups and downs that come into our path.

Here’s a quote I’d like to share.

“You know what I did today? I got up and went to work.

You know who applauded me? No one.

You know who saw me? God.

You know what he thought? I believe he thought, way to use those gifts I gave you.

You know what I’m going to do tomorrow? Do it again.”

The time has come for us to stand a little taller, to lift our eyes a little higher and to stretch our minds to a greater understanding and comprehension of what you and Any Hour are capable of doing.

Thank you for asking such great questions and thank you for your participation in making these goals and dreams a reality.
