It's A Toilet, Not a Trash Can - Things Not to Flush
The toilet is one of the greatest modern inventions of our time. I’m sure most of us can’t even imagine our lives without them! However, a lot of people don’t think about the mechanics of a toilet and the plumbing involved when deciding what to send down the toilet. In fact, far too often, people use a toilet as a trash can to get rid of . . . whatever they want to. THIS IS BAD - DON’T DO IT! Your plumbing is one of the most important systems in your home and it shouldn’t be used to throw items away.
In fact, the only things that should be flushed down a toilet are the 3 P’s - Pee, Poop and Paper (TP - toilet paper). Anything else wreaks havoc on your plumbing system or contaminates our water supply.
So please -- don’t flush any of the following items down the toilet -- not yours, not anybody’s because they can cause some pretty nasty clogs and cause some major problems.
- Disposable/Flushable Wipes
- Feminine Products: Tampons/Pads
- Paper Towel or Napkins
- Tissues (Kleenex)
- Hair
- Fats, Oils, & Grease (F.O.G)
- Leftover Food
- Bones
- Cotton Balls/Swabs
- Dental Floss
- Bandaids
- Gum
- Medication/Needles
- Diapers
- Condoms
- Kitty Litter
- Paint
By learning what not to flush down your toilet, you can protect your toilet, your home’s plumbing, your city’s lines, and the public water supply. Keeping these items away from your toilet and drains can go a long way in keeping your plumbing running smoothly.
