How UV Lights In Your HVAC System Protect Your Home
UV lights are one way people can reduce sickness by killing microorganisms in the home. In fact, some homeowners already have a UV system installed on their HVAC system and don't even know it! In this article, we'll go over what a UV light does, why you might want one, and how to maintain it. That way your family can breathe better and feel healthier at home.
What Does A UV Light Do?
When installed in your HVAC system, a UV light helps kill mold, bacteria, and viruses. As your system works to move air through your home, the air passes across your UV light. The light then kills those harmful microbes that might be floating in the air of your home. That's how it works to prevent diseases in your home.
So, a UV light might be a great idea if you are considering ways to improve your indoor air quality. It's a simple job for a technician to integrate it into your existing equipment to help clean the air. On top of that, it's also a whole-home solution, as opposed to single-room UV units that are only able to cover a small area.

What Do I Need To Do To Maintain It?
If you already have a UV light installed on your furnace, now might be a great time to make sure it's still working. Like any light, UV lights burn out and need replacing. There's often an indicator light on the system to let you know if your UV light is working. If the indicator is out, it's time to replace the bulb.
Because the light turns on whenever the blower motor runs, the bulbs often last about 2 years. Once yours burns out, it's easy to order a replacement bulb. Then you'll want to shut the power off to switch out the old bulb. Unscrew the housing, unplug the wiring harness, and loosen the screws to remove the old bulb. After that, unpack the new bulb and reverse the process. Check out the video below for a more detailed walkthrough of these steps.
