Why You Should Disconnect Your Hose When It's Cold Out

If you've ever had your plumbing pipes freeze on you, you know how much of a nightmare it can be. In this episode, we’re talking about how that happens. We’ll go over what causes a frozen pipe and some tips to prevent it. Then we discuss what to you if your pipes burst on you.

There are a few situations that make it more likely for your pipes to freeze. For example, several days of freezing temperatures make it much more likely for a pipe to freeze. Especially if there’s a hose bib that wasn’t able to drain before the temperature dropped. We go over that more in the video.

If you know a cold front is on the way, there are a few ways to help prevent pipes from freezing. We discuss most of them in the video. The first thing you can do, though, is to disconnect your hose from the hose bib. That will let the water drain out, preventing the vast majority of frozen pipes.
