5 Ways To Avoid Causing Your Own Furnace Problems

Sometimes we unknowingly cause our furnaces to work harder, or even worse, stop working altogether. In this episode, we go over the top 5 things you might be doing that makes it harder for your system to keep your home comfortable. We also discuss things you can do to improve it instead.

Starting at the bottom and working our way up, number 5 on this list is blocking the outside exhaust on a High-Efficiency furnace. It’s common for it to get forgotten and for things to get stacked in front of it. It’s a good idea to know where it is and to remind your family to keep it uncovered.

The next common problem is a repair that seems simple, so you try to fix it yourself. While there are things you can do yourself, some projects need specific training. If you’re knee-deep in a repair project and feel like you’ve gotten in over your head, stop and call a professional to help.

Number 3 is messing with the thermostat. Sometimes the problems you’re dealing with can be as simple as turning the fan from AUTO to ON instead of turning on the heat. Other times homeowners are replacing an old thermostat and accidentally blow a fuse. Or the thermostat might just have a set of dead batteries. Whenever you’re dealing with your thermostat, it’s a good idea to check the instruction manual to make sure you have all the information you need.

We go over the top 2 things to avoid in the video. We also go into more detail about what can happen if you find yourself making these common mistakes.
