An Air Conditioner Can Only Do So Much

Have you ever felt that your air conditioner can’t keep up when the temperature gets over 95 degrees? If so, you aren’t alone. In this episode, we discuss the limitations that your air conditioner has and how to get the most out of it. We’ll also go over ways to fix a potential problem.

The first thing to understand is your air conditioner is not a freezer. It can only get your home so cold. And if it’s 105 outside, it’s going to have a harder time getting your home cooler. In that situation, expect your air conditioner to run all day. That won't damage it, but it could expose hidden problems.

Utah HVAC companies often design ACs to handle up to 95 degrees. That’s because there are usually only a few days over that per year. It would be inefficient to have a system big enough to handle super hot temperatures the rest of the time. You'd end up paying more in utilities for the same comfort.

There are some other factors that can make it hard for your air conditioner to cool your home as well. If your windows are single-paned, more heat is going to transfer through them. That means your air conditioner has to work harder and longer to cool that area. And like always, a dirty air filter is hard on the entire system.
