How To Fix a Chirping Smoke Detector
Other than changing the battery and replacing it every 10 years, there is very little you need to do to keep your smoke detectors working. A chirping smoke detector is usually a sign the battery needs to be replaced or the smoke detector needs to be replaced. If you ever find yourself with a chirping smoke detector, try this.
How To Stop a Chirping Smoke Detector
1: Change The Batteries. Most of the time, changing the batteries should stop any chirping. If that doesn’t work, the smoke detector might be dead. Until you can replace it, try this.
2: Remove the battery and turn off the power. Then press and hold the test button until the sound stops. Now it’s time to install a new smoke detector.
3: On the back, you’ll find the date your detector was made. The NFPA recommends replacing it 10 years after that. This is something you might be able to do yourself or an electrician can help.
