The Dirty Little Secret Fiber Optics Don't Want You To Know
Fiber optic companies have a dirty secret they don't want you to know! In this video, we’re going to expose that secret. We’ll tell you about something they do every day that, if it’s left alone, can cost thousands in damages. We’ll also tell you how we know these companies are aware of the problem!
In all seriousness, fiber optic companies are not out to get you. But there is a process they use every day that has risks for homeowners. That process is called directional drilling. It involves sending a drill underground in a line to feed conduit, so they don’t have to tear up the whole road.
Directional drilling saves a ton of time and money. It also saves a lot of hassle for people living in the area. But it does have some drawbacks. Because the soil they drill through isn’t uniform, they can't drill in a perfectly straight line. It waves over and under firmer soil, sometimes hitting your sewer main line.
We go over these challenges in more detail in the video. If a fiber optic company does hit or nick a sewer main line, they will often foot the bill to repair it. So if you see a notice of directional drilling on your door, it can be a good idea to watch your drains for a couple of weeks.
If you start having backups, there’s a decent chance the drilling damaged your pipes. In that case, Any Hour Services would be happy to help.
