How to Remove Hard Water Buildup From Your Shower Head
Is your showerhead covered in chalky white hard water stains? Or does it spray in a dozen random directions? In this video, we go over how to clean hard water off of your showerhead so that it looks good and flows well again.
Hard water is any water with minerals like calcium and magnesium dissolved in it. Those minerals get left behind when the water evaporates. They stick to the surface of water fixtures like your showerhead or faucets. Hard water can act like sandpaper, wearing your pipes and fixtures down over time.
The good news is your showerhead isn’t too much of a challenge to clean. Hard water deposits are easy to break down with light acids, so vinegar is a great option here. With enough vinegar and time, and a little bit of elbow grease, your showerhead can work almost like new.
If you’d prefer to avoid hard water stains in the first place, a water softener is your best bet. Water softeners remove the minerals as soon as the water enters your home. That way you can protect your pipes and fixtures at the source. On top of that, your soap will last can last 3 times longer, because it doesn't need to condition the water as much.
If you’re considering having a water softener installed, Any Hour Services would be happy to help. One of our licensed plumbers can size your system and provide you with several options to fit your needs. You can give us a call or schedule an appointment online.
