Did You Know That Smoke Detectors Go Bad? Are Yours Still Good?
While smoke detectors do need a change in batteries every once in a while, the alarm can also wear out over time. In this video, we talk about how long they should last and also some signs that they’ve expired.
We know how annoying it can be when your smoke detector starts beeping in the middle of the night. Some people have even gotten mad enough to remove and throw away theirs. But your smoke detector is there to keep you and your family safe, so it’s important to know if yours is working.
Smoke detectors often have a lifespan of about 10 years. After that, they lose their effectiveness and can’t do their job of keeping you safe. If yours keeps beeping even after you try to change the battery, it might be going bad as well. This video also discusses a number of other reasons they might go bad.
Some smoke detectors can use just a battery, but some wire into your home and use a battery as a back up. If that’s the case for your home, it can be a good idea to have an electrician you trust replace it. And if you’re in the Utah market, Any Hour Services would be happy to help you with yours.
