How to Get Your AC Ready For Summer
Summer and its hot weather are just around the corner. With that in mind, there are some things you need to do to get your air conditioner ready for the summer heat. In this episode, we’ll go over those things. We’ll also talk about some of the random things you might have stuffed down your vents.
The first place to start is your outside unit. The biggest thing to watch for here is airflow. If you covered it for the winter, uncover it. Clear things at least 6-8 inches away from the unit. Once the airflow is taken care of, it’s a good idea to check that the fan spins freely and turn the disconnect is turned on.
Now that the outside is good, it’s time to head inside. Airflow is important here too, so start by checking or changing your air filter. Then open your vents and make sure the returns aren’t blocked. After that, check the insulation. If you have a bypass humidifier, close the damper.
Once you’ve taken care of both inside and outside units, the last thing to take care of is the thermostat. You’ll want to turn it from heat to cool here or set the temperature if that's how yours works. It’s also a good idea to replace the batteries at this point so that they aren’t a problem later.
After the maintenance you do yourself, manufacturers recommend you have a professional inspect it as well. Any Hour Services would be happy to help with that. One of our certified technicians will come over and tune up your air conditioner so that it can run at its best for the summer. You can give us a call or schedule an appointment online.
