4 Tips To Keep Your Shower Working

Showers work hard to keep you and your family clean. On top of that, a lot of people use them to relax and to think. And no one likes it when their shower stops working the way it should. In this blog post, we'll go over four tips to help you keep your shower working. That way you can continue to enjoy relaxing showers without needing to get a repair.

Cleaning and Checking Pressure

How To Stop A Smoke Detector From Chirping

The first tip to keep your shower clean. Soap scum, mildew, and hair can clog the drain and prevent water from flowing the way it should. Hair is a big one, in particular. It often gets caught in the drain, collecting into a clump that can stop any water from making its way down. Regular cleaning, using a mild cleaner and a scrub brush to remove any buildup, can help. You can also use a solution of white vinegar and water to remove soap scum and mildew. For the hair that gets caught in the drain, a bent coat hanger or a drain hair removal tool should do.

The second tip is to check the water pressure. Low water pressure from a clogged showerhead can prevent water from flowing. In that case, you can remove the showerhead and clean out debris blocking it. Your home's water pressure could also be too high. That can cause your fixtures to fail earlier than they should. You can test your home's water pressure with a small pressure gauge you can get from the hardware store. You can check the video below on how to do that. If you'd like some help with it, a plumber should have the skills and tools they need.

Temperature and Leaks

The third tip is to check the temperature control. If the water temperature is too hot or too cold, it can make your shower experience uncomfortable. It could also be an indicator of problems with your water heater. The thermostat on your water heater can go out, leaving you with water that's too hot or too cold. That could be a sign of other problems going on as well. If you think you have a failing water heater thermostat, it's a good idea to call a plumber you trust.

The fourth tip is to check for leaks. Leaks can cause water damage and can be costly to repair. They're also often signs of bigger problems going on in your plumbing system. High water pressure is a common cause of leaky fixtures, as is hard water. To check for leaks, look for any water stains or discoloration on the walls or floor of your shower. It's also a good idea to check the caulking around the shower and replace it if it gets worn or cracked.
