Why Heat Cable, and Why Any Hour Services?
Ice Can Cause Serious Water Damage to Your Home
The icicles you see hanging from your eaves in the winter, while enchanting, can sometimes indicate hidden problems. They can be a sign of a wall of ice that’s built up in your gutters and on your roof, called an “ice dam.”
1. Heat Rises
Indoor heat rises through the ceiling into the attic and warms the roof surface.
2. Ice Dam Build Up
Snow on the warmer part of the roof melts and flows down until it reaches the area of the roof below 32°F. There, this water refreezes, sometimes clogging your gutters, and then begins to form an ice dam.
3. Ice Dam Backups
The dam grows as it’s fed by melting snow above, causing a backup of the snow melt trying to make its way down.
4. Damage to the Home's Interior
With time, this standing water can seep through your roof covering, get into your attic, cause damage, and even soak through your ceilings and interior walls.
